AKITA – March 2015 – Running a 4-skills extensive reading class

The purpose of the presentation/workshop was to show participants a method for helping students increase motivation and focus their English ability, as well as develop lifelong skills by using ER. The workshop started with the question “What is ER?”. Since most of the participants have never used ER in their teaching, they paid attention to the presenter’s talk of real application of ER at Tohoku University. The presenter provided an overview of a 4-skills extensive reading class developed over the last six years at his university by demonstrating the steps they used to connect ER to classroom curriculum. The workshop participants learned authentic ER activities that are usable and the session concluded with a lively question and answer session.
